02/06/2016 – 10 Verses from Tartam Sagar Granth

Shri Raas Granth : Prakaran 5 : Verse 14 – 23

Mata pita pat saasu sasro, rovtaa n suniyaa re baal |
Vaayne vege re vachhutiyo, ven saambhalta tatkaal ||14||

These gopikas did not care about their mother, father, husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and even their crying babies. Listening to the music of flute immediately they left at the velocity of air.

Vastar vina sakhi je naahti, tene nav saambhriya re ang |
Ven saambhaltaa re vaala tani, ene vegma na kidhi re bhang ||15||

The sakhi who was bathing without clothes did not care about her body parts. On hearing the flute she did not let the pace of other sakhis break i.e. she also started walking at the same pace.

Koi sakhi re huti navraavti, hath loto naame che jal |

One of the sakhi was bathing her husband. She was pouring water from a jug. On hearing the melodious music of the flute the jug from her hand fell on her husband. Being restless she could not utter a single word.

Gopad bachh re ene same, Sukjiye nirdhaariyo te saar |
Tratakde re tratakda kariya, kain bandhda hata je sansaar ||17||

This incident is described by Sukdevji as Govatspad. (Like there is no difficulty in crossing the footprints of the calves filled with water, similarly the gopis had no difficulty in crossing this (संसार सागर) world of ocean). They considered the bondages of the world as trivial as a straw of grass and broke it into pieces.

Sansaar tanaa re kaam sarve karta, pan chitma na medhyo re paas |
Vilambh na kidhi re vachhot-ta, ae taamsiyona prakaas ||18||

Although the gopis were busy in worldly affairs, they had no attachment for this world. Hence, they did not delay in breaking the bonds of this illusionary world. Such an activity (dedication) clearly portrayed the nature of tamas sakhis.

Koi sakhi re singaar karta, suni tene ven shravan |
Paayna bhooshan kaane peheriyaa, taan tanaa re charan ||19||

Many sakhis were adorning themselves. On listening to the flute, in a hurry they adorned the ornaments of feet on ears and the ornaments of ears on feet.

Ek naine re anjan kariyu, biju rahyu re em |
Ven-no svar saambhalyaa pachi, raajsiyo rahe re kem ||20||

They applied kohl to one eye and the other remained without it. On hearing the music of the flute how could the sakhis of rajas nature remain at home?

Raajsiye re kaink naine ditho, pan vichaar kare to thaay ved |
Taamsiyo re mohovad thaiyo, raajsiye na mookyo tehno ked ||21||

Rajas natured sakhis saw everywhere. If they would have kept thinking it would have delayed. The tamas natured sakhis had left first. Rajsi sakhis also followed them.

Svantsiye re vichaar kariyo, tene aada devraana re vaar |
Kutam saga re sahu tolo mali, farine valyaa bhartaar ||22||

The satvik sakhis had just thought of leaving the house, but the doors had been closed. Their husbands along with the family members and other known people surrounded them from all the four sides.

Tyaare manmaahe vichaar kariyo, ae kan aada thaay durijan |
Ae su jaane var nahi eno vaalaiyo, to jaata vaare che van ||23||

The satvik natured sakhis thought that why these evil people have become interruptions on our path? Don’t they know that beloved Shri Krishna is our spiritual husband? Then why are they stopping us from going to Vrindavan?
