In today’s world people are living a life which is full of chaos, they have no directions or true goals of life and are blindly following their friends, colleagues, relatives and other people, trying to find happiness in different ways. Happiness in a true sense is a state where one needs nothing but only God. People actually show that their understanding of life or way of living is better than what others know or live. But this is in reality a perception which is different from person to person and as per me all are correct in whatsoever they believe in. And because everyone is different they also consider any random person as a “Sadguru” which is slightly not according to my knowledge or where I do not believe in or accept it.
To literally find what I mean you should read ahead to know my belief with the help of some evidences which are well-known since time immemorial. Hence today I would like to dedicate this post to my Guruji who has been my inspiration, has helped me in realising the goal of my soul and has imparted me the highest knowledge of self – realisation, realisation of Parmatma and his Supreme Abode – Paramdham, commonly known as Brahma Gyan. I would describe the meaning of Sadguru, his importance and some other relevant things which need to be brought to the notice of the people all around the world.
People often understand that a Guru means a Teacher, but I believe a Guru means a Master. And he is to be called a Sadguru only and only if he imparts the knowledge about the highest goal of a human life that is attaining liberation, complete freedom from the cycle of life and death.
Basically SADGURU / SATGURU is a Sanskrit word describing a true master who gives spiritual knowledge. “SAD / SAT” means satya or true and “GU” means lack of knowledge or darkness while “RU” means remover of ignorance or darkness.
Hinduism gives a lot of importance for having or finding a GURU. It is said one should have a Guru if he wishes to excel in life and attain oneness with God. Guru is the one who imparts knowledge, awakens the soul and enlightens the path of his or her disciple.
Truly awakened Gurus give a guru mantra to his or her disciple and this process is known as Diksha, where a mantra and a routine of prayers are given to the disciple. The disciple thereby completely trusts the Guru and the power of the mantra and chants it repetitively. Guru bestows his blessings and love and thus prepares his disciple to attain the highest form of knowledge of the Atma – the Self & the Parmatma – the Supreme Divinity.
Guru’s position is considered more than the Supreme Almighty – the Parmatma. His glory can never be praised through speech or any other act. He is the Parmatma himself. It is so because; only due to a Guru the disciple shines and progresses on the chosen path.
Many shlokas and verses describe his greatness. The below shloka addresses the Guru as the Brahma, the Vishnu & the Mahesh, thereby addressing him as the Parabrahma.
|| Gurur Brahma Gurur Vishnu Gurur Devo Maheshwaraha
Guru Sakshat Parabrahma Tasmey Shri Gurve Namah ||
गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुर्गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः
गुरु साक्षात् परम ब्रह्मा तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ||
The meaning of the above shloka is “I salute or bow down to such a Guru who is Brahma, who is Vishnu, who is Mahesh (Shiva), and who is verily the Parabrahma.”
Prominence, love and blessings of a Guru can never be estimated; they are infinite, immeasurable, and limitless. Kabirji has also written a verse in praise of his Guru.
Guru Gobind dou khade, kake lagun paye
Balihari guru aapne Gobind diyo bataye.
गुरु गोबिन्द दोउ खडे काके लागूँ पाँय
बलिहारी गुरु आपने गोबिन्द दियो बताय |
Here Kabirji asks that when one sees Guru and Govind (Lord) both standing together, whom should one salute or bow down, to that he answers that one should first bow down to Guru, because only due to the Guru he got to see / know the Lord (Govind).
I have seen and heard many people saying they do not need a Guru as a mediator to realise / feel the presence of God or to achieve material goals, but one should always think and act wisely because if they believe or admire any God, Goddess, Deity, Saint or an Ideal person such people should also look upon their life stories. When one looks upon the life of Shri Krishna, Lord Dattatreya, Saint Jalaram, Saint Sai Baba, Saint Kabir, Swami Vivekananda, Chandragupta Maurya, Maharana Pratap and many others, one can see that their achievements were possible and their goals were easily attainable only because of their Gurus.
When such powerful personalities had a Guru, other people not having Guru too should think about it. It is rightly said, one should never be in a haste to find a Guru and one should never remain without a Guru. As per one of the famous folklore it is said “Guru bina gat nahi” (गुरू बिन गत नही), so I think people who are against the relationship of Guru-Shishya should reconsider their decision for a better life.
One important line which helps us to know whether the friends, the parents, the Guru etc are true or not is found in Shrimad Bhagwat. It says “The ones like our mother, father, guru, friends, brother, sister who do not give us the knowledge of Moksha are our great enemies.” So find a Guru who is able to impart you the Brahma Gyan.
It is said a Guru’s teaching, practices or his preaching must never be doubted, if doubted one falls into the pits of hell. One must follow the order of his Guru considering it as the order of Parmatma with any suspicion.
I would conclude by adding that in this human life a disciple can never return or pay off for what a Guru does, he (the disciple) always remains indebted.
Do you agree to it? Let me know. Now is the time to get into action, think about this deeply, find a true master and live a great life.
With the blessings of my Guruji and the mercy of Shri Raj Shyamaji, signing off.
